Route 66 thru Galena, KS

Although we originally started at the end of Route 66 at the Santa Monica Pier. This is the beginning of all the cool little towns and quirky things that is the spirit and heart of Route 66.

Oatman, AZ
Population in Oatman is 127 not including the Burrows. There are only two people in the town that are actually from there and they are both in there mid 80's. Everyone has came from all over the country fell in love with Oatman and stayed.

The Gnome has been to Oatman now but this is not where he is hidden.
Pushy little boogers they get right in your car trying to get food.
We had a brilliant plan to have a group picture taken with the donkey and we were all lined up behind him and his dong began to grow. I tried to stop him from leaving our picture but he growled at me and then shortly after we witnessed donkey porn.

Oatman post office

I asked dad to hop up on this tractor to take his picture. slight afterthought temp today was 108 and degrees and this was all metal incuding the seat.  It was hot hot hot!!!!

We ate at the hotel and the every wall is covered with one dollar bills they say that there are around 70,000.

They had a gunfight in Oatman while we were there these three men robbed the bank and then turned on one another so they did not have to share the money.  It was a cute show.

Cool Springs, AZ

This is Cool Springs one store and an outhouse. The guy that owns it is super nice we really enjoyed talking to him.

Kingman, AZ

The best visitor center ever an absolute ton of know was held by the people in this visitor center about Route 66. They gave us lots of helpful info in here. Awesome giftshop too.

Dad and I checking out our options on 66

One of the original mom and pop hotels from back in the day

This is parked in the locomotive park and it was one of the trivia questions in the 66 guidebook.

Hackberry, AZ

Truxton, AZ

Seligman, AZ

This is a man named Angel's barbershop he is responsible for helping save Route 66.

Peach Springs, AZ

All of the old towns combined on Route 66 make up the town of Radiator Springs in Cars.  We thought this building kinda looked like something from cars.

The Grand Canyon Caverns is one of the stops on Route 66.

Williams, AZ

Mom and Brenda are trying to fit in with the locals.

Santa Rosa, NM

Tucumcari, NM

Albuquerqe, NM

Adrian, TX

This truck has been signed all over by people traveling 66.

Bushland, TX
Cadillac Ranch
Amarillo, TX

The Big Texan. Home of the 72 ounce steak. If you can eat it in an hour you don't have to pay.  If not it is a whopping $72.00.

Groom, TX

This is the "Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ" it is 190 ft. tall and is billed as the largest cross in the Western Hemisphere.

This tower was built like this on purpose to attract attention.

Just another shot of the water tower.

McLean, TX
I never dreamed they would make a museum dedicated to barbed wire and since they did I could not believe how big it was. Just an FYI there were over 550 patents in for different types of barbed wire.  I only knew of one kind.

Guess what Mr. Cowboy got into?

The above pictures were just art made out of barbed wire / The Devil's Rope.

This museum was a double bonus. We also got to go thru a Route 66 museum.

We seen Burma shave signs all the time when we were driving.  They are alot of fun.

Dad got busted kissing on the waitress

Gotta love Burma Shave!!!

Shamrock, TX

The three pictures above are from the U-drop inn. This building was featured in the movie Cars.

Oklahoma City, OK

This is an absolutely beautiful memorial to the 168 victims of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building in 1995.   The picture above shows the reflecting pool  and one of the monuments. There is one just like it on the opposite end of the reflecting pool. The one as you enter reads 9:01 at the top of it, which represents the innocence of the city before the attack. The one at the other end reads 9:03 which represents the moment we were changed forever, and the hope that came from the moments and days following the bombing.

Each chair sitting in this represents a Victim

.
The whole area has been made into a park and there is a tree planted for all the survivors of the attack and they have areas set up and trees planted for all the victims.

This is an area of OKC that all of the buildings are made of brick and there is a canal that runs through the whole area and you hop on a water taxi to get to the different places.  It was really cool.

Catoosa, OK

 The Blue Whale Amusement Park

Back in the day this was a happenin spot all of the locals would come here and picnic, swim and lay on the beach. Now it is just a tourist attraction and they have kept the picnic area open. No swimming Allowed.

This is the restroom kinda odd in the women's restroom there were two toilets but no stalls. You could sit there and chit chat with your neighbor while going potty.

Afton, OK

This is a 1917 motorhome.  They said the maker of this motorhome ended up making the first greyhound bus.

Miami, OK

The two pictures above are from Waylan's Ku Ku Burger.

Galena, KS
We are in a shop here called 4 women on the Route. They are the owners of TowTater the inspiration for Towmater in the movie Cars.  In here we met a woman named Melba "the mouth" she talked super fast, but told us the story of how everything came to be with her the shop Tow Tater and Disney in about 5 minutes and I am not sure she took a breath.

This building is shown in the movie 7 times.

The side of this building is also in the movie.

When he second movie comes out on Blue Ray  Melba and the shop 4 women on the Route will be in the extras section and you can see the interview.

We thought we would get to see this kind of cactus everywhere, but this is the only one we seen so we took a picture of it.

We did get to see a real road runner.
